Walking tours

Our walking tours offer countryside hikes as an integral ingredient, in addition to a healthy amount of cultural content on other themes. We walk to English country houses, trek through Tuscany and follow in the footsteps of the Romans along Hadrian’s Wall.

These tours require a different scale of fitness and agility. An indication of the walking involved on each of these tours, with details about distances covered and terrain, is included in each tour description, and we ask that you read this carefully before making a booking. We also use a grading system, both for individual walks and also tours as a whole.

" Well planned. Excellent academic and organisational staff. Always an interesting group of fellow voyeurs. Privileged visits and experiences. " Walking to Derbyshire Houses - Magnificent countryside and great country houses

" First rate. A well planned week of good hikes and interesting sites. " Walking in Southern Bohemia - From castle to country house in glorious countryside

" A clever mixture of walking, visiting sites or artistic and historic interest, and wine tasting. It really made the most of our visit to this interesting area and showed us less familiar places that we would not have found on our own. " Walking in Southern Tuscany - Art, architecture and landscapes in the Val d’Orcia and Chianti

" An excellent combination of activities and tours. " Walking in Sicily - Crater & coast: in the footsteps of history

" I thoroughly enjoyed my holiday. For me, it offered everything I anticipated in the walking and art but, also, my fellow travellers were good company. I will certainly maintain contact with one or two of them who seemed to be kindred spirits. " Footpaths of Umbria - Walks, art and wine between Arezzo and Assisi
